For the past 10 years, the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce’s active and engaged Government Relations Council (GRC) has been supporting our local business community by helping to shape public policy. In advance of the March 7 election, the Chamber PAC Board members interviewed candidates for the Redondo Beach city offices to determine their recommended endorsements. They believe that these candidates will do the best job for our local business community and for the continued viability and future success of the City. The PAC Board voted to endorse the following three candidates for the upcoming city election. Mayor Steve Aspel The Chamber supports the reelection of Steve Aspel, a proven leader with a successful track record and whose leadership balances the needs of the City with the concerns of residents and businesses. Redondo Beach needs a Mayor who is known for facing and making difficult decisions that ensure the financial viability of the City for generations to come. District 1 – Councilmember Martha Barbee City Councilmember Martha Barbee has assumed this position and demonstrated her leadership qualities. She has contributed greatly to the leadership needed to continue guiding the City in attaining responsible economic progress, supporting essential city services, and to helping to continue to build our local economy. District 4 – Business Owner John Gran The PAC endorses local business owner and community leader, John Gran. John Gran currently serves as the Treasurer for the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of the Chamber’s Leadership Redondo program, he has served as President of the North Redondo Beach Business Association since 2014. He is a small business owner and currently serves as the Budget and Finance Commissioner. His proven ability as a leader in our community will be essential to the City being able to realize the most of our revitalization efforts in North Redondo. Measure C - OPPOSE The Chamber PAC has taken the position to OPPOSE Measure C. The ballot initiative would impose restrictions on development in the Redondo Beach King Harbor-Pier area. Additionally, Measure C will cost the taxpayers of Redondo Beach more than $200 million that the residents will have to pay for needed improvements in the Harbor. The revitalization of the waterfront has been in the purposeful planning stages for more than a decade. Measure C would impair our ability to continue to move forward with the plan that will preserve and protect our community for years to come. Don’t forget to Vote on March 7.
